Atal Bihari vajpayee , Lal Krishna Advani and other senior leaders of BJP - Bharatiya Janta Party declared that BJP was a party with difference meaning unique which has now become a party with differences or has been transformed into Bharatiya Jhagada Party. This doom’s day has occurred due to lack of vision and sacrifice of both the top leaders - Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Lal Krishna Advani. Had these two leaders been what they were before enjoying the luxury and glory of Prime Minister and Dy. Prime Minister, the BJP would have not become Bharatiya Jhagada Party. I know many cadre workers actively associated with Bharatiya Jana Sangh(BJS) since 1968 when I was a student of class ten. My association became stronger with them in 1971 and it continued thereafter. Bharatiya Jana Sangh(BJS) with its founder like Shyama Prasad Mukherjee-the He-Man and its second row leaders like Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay, Nanaji Deshmukh, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Lal Krishna Advani etc was genuinely a party with difference. It was a unique political party whom the nation admired. Even the arch political rivals in Congress and Communist camps like Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and EMS Nimboodaripad of Communist camp admired the sacrifices and commitments of BJS leaders and its cadres. It continued till the end of National Emergency in 1977.
The erosion in ideology started when BJS was merged in 1977 to form a political conglomeration called Janata Party with non-congress parties including arch rivals like communists and socialists and this experiment failed within three years of its inception. Morarji Desai Govt. collapsed. The Communists and Socialists returned to their original path but Bharatiya Jan Sangh (BJS) under the twin leadership of Vajpayee and Advani forgot their origin in quest of projecting their liberal image. They shun their economic doctrine of Integral Humanism propounded by its leader Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay. They forgot even Bharatiya Jan Sangh and its politics of uniqueness. These twin leaders betrayed crores of their voters and lakhs of their cadres by forming Bharatiya Janta Party on the place of Bharatiya Jan Sangh (BJS). With a view to attract Muslims, Christians and unsatisfied supporters of Congress they coined the word Gandhian Socialism and deviated from true and most scientific path. The cadres of the party were unhappy on the adoption of Gandhian Socialism but as a disciplined cadre with RSS background they reconciled thinking – let us see the result of this experiment also. They worked tirelessly to ensure the victory of BJP. Lastly, BJP led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) formed the Government. Vajpayee became Prime Minister and Advani held the portfolio of Dy. Prime Minister with Home Ministry.
After becoming Prime Minister and Dy. Prime Minister respectively, the downfall of Vajpayee and Advani became rapid. Both of them and their cohorts become hostile to Hindu organizations who worked tirelessly to make Vajpayee Prime Minister and Advani the Dy. Prime Minister. When these two so called leaders of BJP occupied the highest chairs and formed the cabinet of their choice, they showed a big thumb to their members & cadres. The cadres again reconciled thinking that Vajpayee and Advani were, perhaps, not able to listen them because they had to please the traditional critics to ensure the survival of NDA Government. Though, this was not the case. Once after testing the power they never want to come down to the level of other leaders. They have categorised themselves like Congress Leaders. These abnormal natures of these twin leaders of BJP have shattered the party. They have a lot to learn from cadre based parties like CPI and CPM. We may condemn prostitution but certain prostitutes do also possess many virtues.
Four senior RSS workers including a pracharak were kidnapped in Tripura and allegedly taken to Bangladesh in 2002 and after a year of torture, they were slaughtered. The matter was reported to both of them by top ranking RSS leaders. Vajpayee and Advani betrayed and turned a deaf year. They did not do anything to save their lives. They did not do anything to punish the murderers. During Congress rules, the Ram Janam Bhumi movement spearheaded by VHP touched the peak. But when Vajpayee came into power, he betrayed on one plea or the other. Nothing was done by him. He made false promises one after the other. The betrayal touched its peak when Vajpayee allowed Pope to land on soil of Bharatvarsh against the wishes of Hindus led by VHP. Earlier, the same Pope was denied entry by Japan, China and even a small country like Sri Lanka. During Vajpayee and Advani rule, Pakistani terrorists attacked J&K Assembly killing several innocent people. They also attacked Parliament in broad day light when it was in session. Vajpayee as the Prime Minister had just left the parliament little before the terrorists attacked. Again several of the people including security personnel were killed. Then, famous Akshardham Mandir in Ahmedabad was attacked during evening aarati (pooja) when the mandir was jam-packed with devotees. Many of them were killed. During Vajpayee rule, a passenger plane was hijacked. It was taken to Kandhar. Instead of taking tough stand against terrorists, Vajpayee sent twenty dreaded terrorists including Afjal Guru to Kandhar. Jaswant Singh – then foreign Minister took them in a special plane to release the hostages. This was seen as total surrender of NDA Govt. under Vajpayee to Pakistani terrorists. Then came Kargil war. Pakistan had attacked in Kargil sector of Jammu & Kashmir State. George Fernandez – Defence Minister declared in Kohima – “China is India’s number one enemy.� He stated that Defence forces were ready to meet any eventuality. All the three Chiefs of Defence – the Army, the Air Force and the Navy stated that their forces were in ready position to march. S.K. Sinha- the Finance Minister stated that Bharatiya economy was strong enough to fight the war. The Bharatiya parliament had resolved unanimously that Prime Minister Vajpayee was authorized to decide for attacking Pakistan. The Nation thought that Vajpayee was preparing the ground for counter attacking the Pakistan. America, Britain, Russia, China and all other major countries of the world stood with Bharatvarsh. The countdown had started for attacking Pakistan. But the Nation’s hope was belied by allegedly meek and timid Vajpayee. The Prime Minister Vajpayee failed miserably to rise to the occasion. Several thousand precious lives of our brave soldiers were lost for no gain. It was the gross mistake of Vajpayee. It was the historic lapse and unbecoming of Vajpayee as a Prime Minister. The country will never forgive him. People found hard to believe that Prime Minister Vajpayee was same as Opposition leader Vajpayee. The people who had seen Vajpayee roaring at Indira and Rajiv, were stunned to see the same Vajpayee as exceptionally coward. They were also surprised to see the abnormal behavior of Advani. They described both of them as “hopeless, opportunist and betrayer of Bharat Mata.�
On the front of party organization, Vajpayee and Advani miserably failed. They quarreled with RSS, VHP, BMS and other senior Hindu leaders because of whom they acquired the highest honor. The senior and committed leaders like Govindacharya- RSS Pracharak, Kalyan Singh former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and Sadhvi Uma Bharti, former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh were whimsically expelled from the party. Their fault nobody knew. The senior leaders like S.K.Sinha, Satrughan Sinha and Dilip Singh Judev were humiliated for no fault whatsoever. In Northeast, BJP joined the nexus with regional parties having support of anti-Bharat underground organizations. It was so in Tripura. It was the same in Nagaland and Assam. Vajpayee was allegedly under deep influence of NSCN-IM and that is why he accepted its demand of extending cease fire agreement into Naga inhabited areas of Manipur. Manipuris opposed vehemently and 18 Maiteis were gunned down by police firing on 5 lakhs strong protest rally joined by every section of the Manipuri people in June 2001. Several Ministers’ houses were burnt. The famous state library containing several age old manuscripts was reduced to ashes. The Chief Minister, his Cabinet colleagues and all the MLAs had fled to New Delhi seeking refuge there. The Manipuris chased state BJP leaders who had already sneaked out of Manipur secretly to avoid the attack of Manipuri mobs. The Vajpayee and Advani were most hated name in Manipur. National media preferred to ignore this unhappy incident of national importance but local media of Manipur reported it properly. This was reported by intelligence agencies as well. But twin top leaders of BJP – Vajpayee and Advani did not bother to public voice. To add salt to injuries the Prime Minister Vajpayee when on Chinese soil declared that Tibet was an integral part of China while he was miserably failed to claim the sovereignty of Bharatvarsh over Arunachal Pradesh, Pak Occupied Kashmir (POK) and other adjacent lands encroached by China measuring 37,000 square miles. Dy. Prime Minister Advani when on Pakistani soil declared that Jinnah- the master-mind behind the vivisection of motherland and genocide of ten lakhs Hindus was secular. He allegedly wrote in the visitor’s book at Jinnah’s tomb that creation of Pakistan was irretrievable whereas RSS is working for Akhand Bharat (Undivided Bharat). These were perceived as a treacherous acts and anti-national deeds of Vajpayee and Advani.
The people including dedicated cadres reportedly believe that Vajpayee betrayed the nation with a view to get Noble Peace Award and Bharat Ratna. Advani did it to muster Muslim votes to become Prime Minister after next election. The anti-national and anti-social deeds of top ranking BJP leaders have percolated down to the ground adversely affecting the morale of party at large. This immorality has been revealed in last chintan baithak (review meeting) of BJP. Coupled with these misdeeds the party stand stark naked because of it’s in fight in front of print and electronic media. And thus, the people of the country are angry not on BJP as a whole but on Vajpayee, Advani and their coterie. When the people got chance, they have shown BJP the exit door. The route of BJP in recent assembly elections in Maharashtra, Arunachal and Haryana is the proof of it. It will meet its doom in assembly election of Jharkhand also which is scheduled to be held in November end unless there is a miracle in favor of BJP. The BJP has lost its traditional vote bank in quest of showing a pseudo-secular image. Are they prepared to learn a lesson from this doom?
