IMPHAL, Nov 20: Cooperative movement in Manipur could be sped up when members of the cooperative societies work with a commitment.

This was observed by principal secretary (finance) AN Jha, while delivering his speech at the closing function of the 56th All India Cooperative Week celebration at the Institute of Cooperative Management, Lamphelpat, Imphal.

Further speaking at the function, Jha maintained that success of cooperative movement lies at sincerity and commitment of different units of cooperative societies. Every cooperative societies needs to be equally improved, otherwise the cooperative movement will not succeed, Jha said.

Due to globalization and coming of different multinational companies, cooperative movement in the country was once on the verge of extinction. But due to participation of self-help group in cooperative movement, a new era has started and the movement is speeding up with success, Jha maintained.

The theme for the weeklong celebration was `The cooperatives as an efficient & effective business model in global economic slow down` and the topic was `Strengthening cooperatives values & principle through cooperative leadership`.

Today`s closing function was also attended by P Vaiphei, IAS commissioner (cooperation), T Pamei, IAS, registrar cooperative societies and Kh Borkeshor Singh, president Manipur State Cooperative Union.
