The Imphal Free Press
IMPHAL, Oct 31: The underground United Kuki Liberation Army, Military Council (UKLA) MC, has imposed its do`s and dont`s while celebrating the Kut festival by different bodies in the state.
Among these is the discontinuance of Miss Kut pageant as it claimed this is not part of the Kut tradition.
According to a press communique of the outfit the decision is being taken up as the Kut celebration was not serving its original and true purpose since the last many years.
There have been suggestions and proposal from many thinkers to celebrate the Kut festival as it aught to be, but the State Level Kut Committee has shown open defiance to all those excellent suggestions and they continue to organise and carriy on ignoring the purpose and true meaning of the festival.
The guidelines includes, the State Level Kut Committee should be appointed newly with the active participation of the KIM, KSO, KMO, KWU and KMHR and there shall be no Kut Committee without representative from these major social bodies.
Miss Kut contest should be abandoned as it is not part of their traditional and culture.
Nonetheless it has come to overshadow all the other important items of the Kut, and this is a cause of alarm it said.
There should be a felicitation program for true acievers in the society and incentives given to those cultural troupes who have spent their valuable times, energy and money to come and participate in the festival should be increased, it added.
The venue of the Kut should be in one of their chief town Like Churachandpur, Moreh, Kangpokpi, Motbung and other but it should not be Imphal City due to many obvious reasons, the entire system of the Kut celebrations must be modified or changed so as to make the Kut festival become a glorification of the almighty God, it said. Tt is far better to abolish the Kut festival than to celebrate it the way it is presently, it added.
