MPP meet CEC Chawla; CPI awaiting audience; protests on

The Imphal Free Press

Imphal, April 27: The leaders of the MPP met the election commissioner Navin Chawla at the ECI conference hall in New Delhi this evening around 4.30 pm. The team will return to Imphal tomorrow, a source said.

Meanwhile, as a part of the line of action taken up by the Left and the Democratic Coordination Committee, CPI and MPP demanding repoll at the polling stations of Andro and Thoubal A/C in the just concluded 15th Lok Sabha elections, a team led by CPI candidate Dr. M Nara has prepared documents containing their demands, especially in the matter of re-polling, which are to be submitted to the Election Commission of India (ECI) tomorrow, a source said.

A sit-in protest was also organised at Khanam bazar in Takyelpat by the CPI today.

At the protest, Kh Enaobi, president of the AISF said that people were making a mockery of Indian democracy and asked everyone to join hands to improve the culture of democracy.

M Sotinkumar, convenor of the Left and Democratic Coordination Committee expressed that the SPF government had broken all the rules of democracy in the recent MPs election and also said that the deputy speaker Shyamkumar was also sent to jail.

Not only this, the Congress is alleged to have said that if the votes are given to the Congress the case against Shyamkumar would be withdrawn, he added.

He said that unfair means were used by the Congress in the elections while demanding that action should be taken against those concerned officials posted at the hyper sensitive polling stations.

The sit-in protest today was staged after getting the permission of the Imphal west DC as the area is under prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC.
