CNPO calls for Naga reconciliation

IMPHAL, Oct 14: As a follow up step towards showing solidarity to the recent demonstration carried out by representatives of 32 civil society organisations on September 25 at Dimapur on the Naga reconciliation process, the Chandel Naga Peopleâs Organisation, CNPO, observed Naga reconciliation today at Kapaam (Komlathabi) Public gournd Chandel district.
During the observation, president CNPO, Ng Gilbert while giving the keynote address read out the recent recommendations of the Naga reconciliation taken during the demonstration by the Naga representatives at Dimapur, which mentioned that all Naga national political groups (factions) must stop all forms of violence against each other, initaition of meetings at highest level to strengthen the Naga reconciliation, to acknowledge all Naga tribes with mutual respect and oneness in their effort to overcome tribalism and sectarianism, the Naga National political groups repeal all Azhasâ in the forms of quit notice/ex-communication/bans etc. that stand in the way of genuine Naga conciliation, to evolve a mechanism against excessive and unqualified taxation, to initiate public awarness from the grassroots level to garner public support through symbolic action and mass education, to foster understanding among Naga tribes through cultural exchange by valuing and upholding their shared aspirations and respecting each otherâs identity.
Besides, the recent recommendation also urged the Naga national groups not to hamper the status and functioning of Naga civil organisations, forum for Naga reconciliation should take the initiative to evolve and implement a road map towards Naga reconciliation, unity and peace and to seek the active prayer support and participation of the Naga people in the reconciliation process.
The observation of Naga reconciliation at Kapaam public ground in Chandel was attended by MLA of Tengnoupal AC, Morung Makunga along with MP from the Outer Manipur Parliamentary constituency,
Mani Charenamei and president of the United Naga Council, Samson Remei as special guests.
Speaking at the gathering, Mani Charenamei said there was need for restoring a sense of âforgive and forgetâ among the Nagas in order to bring to an end the conflict among the Naga factions.
It is time for all Nagas to mainatin peaceful co-existence with each other to achieve their long standing goals and this reconciliation of Nagas would be achieved through proper education of Naga people, he added.
Meanwhile, Morung Makunga in his speech appealed for an end to the war and violence among the factions. âWe can bring peace, unity and friendship based on reconciliation,â he said while appealing for reconciliation among the Naga people.
Later, UNC president, Samson Remei in his speech mentioned that factional clashes amounted to human rights violations and it was for the Naga people to end such factional clashes. The Naga people must unite and mainatin peace among themselves and it was good that both NSCN factions had started communicating to end the factional crisis between the groups, he added.
The observation was also attended by various representatives of students bodies belongings to the Naga community and village chiefs and Naga public of Chandel district.
