IMPHAL, Dec 28: The Bharatiya Janata Party has demanded that the intensive revision of the electoral rolls of the state scheduled for January 1, 2005 should be done efficiently to eliminate all invalid voters.
Addressing a press meeting today at the official residence of the party president, Th Chaoba Singh, the president stated that the last summary revision was made on January 1, 2004.
He also demanded that the revision should be made by actually visiting the residences of the voters and identifying the invalid votes of those persons married off or dead.
Stating that the last major revision of electoral rolls was made in 1995, he also stated that there has not been major changes in the electoral rolls in the past 10 years.
It is surprising that as per the rolls not much of the voters had died or married off within the last 10 years, he said.
Chaoba also stated that the lack of much change in the electoral rolls of the valley Assembly constituencies can be attributed to nonconducting of
actual survey of the voters but only paper work by surveyors in their office without verification.
He also charged that such misdeeds of the surveying officials have resulted in the inflated number of voters for Senapati, Ukhrul and Chandel districts.
In the meantime, a press release of the BJP condoled the death and destruction of lives and properties brought about by tsunami that hit the coastal areas of India on Sunday.
It also stated that a meeting of the party was held to discuss the one day state level political training camp to be held on January 12, 2005 at Narsing Mandop.
Further, a one minute silence was also offered condoling the demise of Thokchom Amucha Singh of Singjamei A/c, the release added.
